Politicians in the country have been urged to support the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in its efforts to strengthen democratic governance.

A former member of the National Assembly, Senator Abubakar Sadiq Yar’adua, gave the advice while reacting to INEC’s decision to recognise former Senate President David Mark as the authentic National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Senator Yar’adua, who commended INEC for the recognition, stressed the need for all stakeholders to respect the position of the electoral umpire.

He also called on members of the ADC to rally round their National Chairman and other leaders to implement the guidelines already set for effective operations across the country, in order to achieve the party’s objectives.

The former lawmaker expressed optimism that collective efforts would move the party forward despite challenges faced since its formation, while urging INEC to maintain neutrality in carrying out its constitutional mandate to meet public expectations.
