The Kaduna State Government has intensified efforts to construct rural roads across the state to ease the transportation of farm produce from agrarian communities to markets.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Alhaji Umar Abubakar Abba, made this known during the second-quarter oversight of some benefiting areas.

He explained that Governor Uba Sani’s administration, in partnership with the World Bank under the Rural Access and Agricultural Market Project (RAAMP), is committed to improving rural infrastructure to enhance farming and socioeconomic development.

The Permanent Secretary urged contractors to ensure speedy delivery and adherence to standards.

Project Coordinator, Engineer Zubairu Abubakar, highlighted completed works, including a 3.5-kilometer road in Gora Kawai, Jaba LGA, a 5.6-kilometer Aduwan Gida to Padan Kaje road in Zonkwa, Zangon Kataf LGA, and over 50 kilometers of roads in Ikara LGA.

He added that other communities benefiting include Illa to Kofato in Igabi LGA, and Sabon Tasha to Juji-Unguwar Barde.

Village heads and residents, including Mr. Christopher Dogara of Gora and Miss Iliya of Aduwan Gida, expressed appreciation for the projects, saying they would ease the movement of farm produce.

Many road users also shared their relief, recalling past struggles in transporting crops to markets before the roads were built.

Engineer Abubakar assured that all rural access roads under RAAMP would be completed by the end of 2025 with strict quality standards maintained.

Meanwhile, contractors pledged to deliver quality work and hand over projects on schedule.

The state government says the initiative is a major step towards improving rural livelihoods and boosting agricultural productivity.
