The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has suspended train operations on the Abuja-Kaduna route until further notice.
Kayode Opeifa, the NRC Managing Director, told newsmen in Abuja after an Abuja-Kaduna passenger train derailed.
Opeifa said the technical staff of NRC and the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), as well as other agencies, were at the derailment site to unravel the cause the incident.
He maintained that the train was in good condition before embarking on the journey and confirmed that ticket refunds have begun for all passengers.
According to him, the NRC has received some of the train passengers at the Asham station, the Idu train station in Abuja.
He explained that six passengers sustained minor injuries and were receiving treatment
