The Director-General of the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria-DICON, Major General Babatunde Alaya has advocated for collective efforts towards promoting a cleaner environment for the overall well-being of the society.
He made the call at a tree planting campaign organised by the Chemical Society of Nigeria-CSN, held at the DICON ordnance factory in Kakuri, Kaduna State.
Major General Babatunde Alaya explained that tree planting is very essential for human health, as it purifies the air.
He noted that in the next few years, the plants would serve as a shade for humans and animals, which would ultimately guarantee the general well-being of the society.

Major General Alaya, who expressed the readiness of the DICON to supporting the campaign, described the initiative as timely.
He also commended the CSN for choosing the DICON for the first phase of the exercise.
Earlier in her address, Kaduna State Chairperson of the CSN, Emi-Johnson Umoeka explained that the idea to conduct the campaign was conceived to impact on the society by replenishing trees to tackle deforestation, as well as to combat air, soil and water pollutions.

She disclosed that the Society was partnering with the State Government and selected schools to plant more trees including road corridors.
The Chairperson added that the Society plans to plant about five hundred tress in various locations, with a view to having a healthier and safer Kaduna city.
In her remarks, the founding director of Women Initiative for Sustainable Environment, Olanike Daramola noted that a lot of tree species have gone into extinction due to the indiscriminate felling of trees.

She added that all hands must be on deck to combating climate change.
Highpoint of the event was the symbolic planting of trees by the DG and Directors of the DICON as well as members of the CSN.
