Kano State Government has inaugurated an 18-member Out-of-School Children Education Initiative Committee as part of renewed efforts to address the menace of out-of-school children in the state.

Inaugurating the committee , the State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda explained that the initiative was designed to tackle the challenges of reaching children who were never enrolled in school, as well as those who dropped out of the formal education system.

He pointed out that the committee’s mandate includes expanding access to education for children outside the school system and ensuring re-enrollment of dropouts.

Others are improving the quality of education across the state, providing foundational and life skills as well as employment opportunities for young people and addressing root causes such as poverty and child labour.

Dr Makoda hinted that the committee will also develop clear strategies to handle security concerns, promote community participation, and enhance learning opportunities for all children in the state.

“Since the inception of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration, several interventions have been introduced in collaboration with development partners and civil society organizations to curtail the problem”

In his acceptance speech,  Chairman of the committee who doubles as the Technical Adviser to the Governor on Education Reform, Haladu Muhammad represented by the State Lead of PLANE-FCDO, Malam Umar Lawan, assured the government of their commitment to justify the confidence reposed in them.

Radio Nigeria reports that other members of the committee were drawn from government agencies, academia, traditional institutions, development partners, and civil society groups.
