Emir of Zuru in Kebbi State, retired Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Sani Sami, has passed away on Saturday night.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Governor, Ahmed Idris, confirmed the news in a statement issued to journalists in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.
The late Emir was a former military governor of Bauchi State during the regime of Muhammadu Buhari from 1984 to 1985.
According to the Press Secretary, Governor Nasir Idris received the news of the Emir’s death with deep shock.
The Monarch died at the age of 81 years in a London hospital after an illness and left behind four wives and seven children.
The Kebbi State Government is using this medium to extend its heartfelt condolences to his immediate family members, Zuru Emirate Council, Zuru communities and the entire people of Kebbi State.
In a condolence message, the Kebbi State Government expressed its deep grief over the passing of the revered traditional ruler.
The government described him as a respected leader whose contributions to peace and development in Zuru Emirate and Kebbi State will be remembered.
According to the statement, Burial arrangements will be communicated in due course, may the Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Jannatul Firdaus.
