Liaison Officer of the House of Representatives at the National Secretariat of the APC, Alhaji Garba Garba-Chede

Nigerians who are yet to register for future polls have been advised to take advantage of the ongoing exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission to register and promote democratic governance in the country.

The Liaison Officer of the House of Representatives at the National Secretariat of the APC, Alhaji Garba Garba-Chede, gave the advice in an interview from Abuja.

Alhaji Garba-Chede expressed support for the plan by the Commission to register inmates of Correctional Centres and Nigerians in the diaspora, to give them a sense of belonging as guaranteed by the 1999 Constitution.

The Liaison Officer, however, expressed concern over frequent jailbreaks in the country, allegedly caused by over-congestion and poor facilities, which he said should be addressed by the relevant authorities, as is done in other countries.

Alhaji Garba-Chede suggested modernisation of the Correctional Centres with sophisticated equipment to check Jail breaks while the welfare of inmates be given priority to meet public aspiration and improve the nation’s image dented by corruption.
