Federal Government says the informal sector is a major determining factor to Nigeria’s socioeconomic development.
To this end, the federal government has initiated steps to transform the sector so that artisans, entrepreneurs, fabricators and inventors can contribute to the development of the country.
Special Adviser to the Minister of Education on Almajiri and out of School Children Education, Dr Balarabe Shehu Kakale stated this at a One day advocacy and sensitization workshop on the Technical Vocational Education and Training TVET and Luminah initiative in kaduna.
Dr Balarabe Shehu Kakale said the Federal Ministry of Education initiated the Technical Vocational Education and Training TVET program as an ambitious plan targeted at creating jobs and Transforming Nigeria’s informal sector.
The Special Adviser was of the view that the initiative will pave the way for so many young people to venture into functional and technical learning to contribute to the development of the country.
He further called on states to support the initiative by placing more emphasis on Technical and Vocational Education including Entrepreneurship for the overall good of the Nation.
In an address, Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education NBTE, Professor Idris Bugaje said the initiative of the federal ministry of education was needed to improve the informal sector of the economy.
The NBTE boss advocated budgetary allocation by both the federal and state governments for the development of pantekas across the country.
In a reaction, the chairman of old panteka market development association kaduna, Nasir Adamu appealed to the state and other northern Governors to support the association with modern tools that would improve productivity.
He assured that the association would remain committed and focused in the task of enriching young people with skills to be self reliant.
High point of the event, was a tour of the panteka market to assess exhibitions by artisans and other entrepreneurs.
