Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ, Jigawa State Council, has inaugurated a newly established Press Conference Committee at its secretariat in Dutse, the state capital.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Council Comrade Ismail Ibrahim Dutse, charged the committee members to drive innovation and bring renewed energy to the Union’s media engagements.
In a statement, Ismail Ibrahim Dutse described the members as seasoned journalists with proven credibility in the profession.
According to him, the committee was created to ensure that press conferences and media engagements are professionally conducted at the NUJ state secretariat, providing a safe and structured environment for journalism practice.
“The essence of journalism is not just reporting, but shaping narratives, clarifying issues, and fostering meaningful dialogue on matters affecting our society,” Dutse emphasized.
He added that the committee is expected to enhance the impact of journalism in Jigawa and beyond, by giving journalists a platform where their voices can be heard clearly and effectively.
In his response, the newly inaugurated Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Hamisu Muhammed Gumel, who also serves as the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor of Jigawa State, commended the NUJ’s current leadership for restoring structure and professionalism within the council.
He acknowledged the initial challenges faced by the state government in its dealings with journalists due to the absence of a functional council, and expressed optimism that the new committee will bridge that gap.
Mr. Gumel pledged full cooperation with the Council and called on committee members to deliver quality service that would uphold journalistic standards and help sanitize the profession in Jigawa State.
