The Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ, Jigawa State Council, has congratulated Governor Malam Umar Namadi on the second anniversary of his administration, hailing his commitment to people-oriented governance and impactful reforms across the state.
In a statement signed by Chairman Comrade Ismail Ibrahim Dutse and Secretary Comrade Aisha Ahmed, the NUJ praised the Governor’s achievements in key sectors such as food security, infrastructure, youth empowerment, healthcare, education, and security all realized within just two years in office.
The Union highlighted the governor’s landmark initiative of transforming Jigawa into a fully mechanized farming state, including the establishment of Farms Mechanization Limited and the procurement of 300 tractors for farmer distribution moves described as critical to boosting agriculture and employment.
NUJ further lauded the recruitment of staff in essential sectors such as education and health, while also calling for the inclusion of the Information and Public Relations Cadre as well as staff for the Jigawa State Broadcasting Corporation and state-owned television, citing urgent manpower gaps due to recent retirements.
The Union acknowledged the administration’s ongoing efforts to improve worker welfare, including timely salary and pension payments, as well as the implementation of a ₦70,000 minimum wage, establishment of palliative shops, and rollout of the Workers Agricultural Support Programme.
It also commended the ₦7.6 billion investment in the Contributory Pension Scheme, describing it as a bold and timely intervention for safeguarding the future of retirees across the state.
NUJ Jigawa urged the governor to remain resolute in the face of challenges, assuring him that history would remember his tenure as a period of sustainable growth and people-first policies.
As part of its goodwill message, the Union expressed hope for continued collaboration between the state government and the media, pledging its support in promoting transparency, accountability, and development in Jigawa State.
