In a bold move to reinforce discipline and accountability within the judicial system, the Hon. Grand Kadi of Jigawa State, Kadi Sani Salihu, on Thursday conducted an unscheduled inspection of several Shari’a courts across the state.

The visit uncovered cases of absenteeism, prompting the immediate summoning of an affected judge and staff to explain their absence.

Joined by key judicial officers including the Acting Chief Registrar, Barr. Kabiru Abubakar Gumel, the inspection team assessed courts in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area, notably the Yalwan Damai, Iggi, and both the Higher and Upper Shari’a Courts.

The Grand Kadi emphasized professionalism, punctuality, and ethical conduct as pillars of a trustworthy judiciary.

Commending some court staff for their dedication, Hon. Kadi Sani also expressed gratitude to a road construction firm and a private donor for supporting the judiciary through CSR and endowment projects such as an access entrance and a borehole, respectively, and described these gestures as symbols of communal development.

The inspection is part of the judiciary’s larger reform plan aimed at improving service delivery, ensuring access to justice, and restoring public confidence in the Shari’a legal system. More oversight visits are expected in the coming days.
