The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Kano Chapter has commended Kano State Government for its commitment to settling gratuities arrears of pensioners, amounting to over ₦16 billion.

The  NLC Chairman, Comrade Kabiru Inuwa disclosed it at the celebration of  Workers’ Day  ceremony held at Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata, Kano.

He urged Nigerian workers to remain steadfast in advocating for justice and good welfare.

Comrade Inuwa noted that despite the administration’s achievements in training and retraining workers, there is still a need for more supporting staff in government agencies and parastatals.

Comrade Kabiru Inuwa emphasized the importance of employing gardeners, messengers, and other supporting staff to make government agencies more landscaped and beautiful.

The NLC Chairman also announced that the Congress has nodded its approval for the return of National Housing Fund deductions, citing that investigations and contacts have revealed that the scheme has been sanitized, and retirees can now access their contributions.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf reiterated his administration’s commitment to providing an enabling environment for civil servants.

“Despite economic challenges, the state government ensures timely payment of salaries to boost workers’ morale for effective service delivery. ”

The Governor noted that his administration has revived the Kano State civil service through adherence to its rules and scheme of work.

Governor Yusuf emphasized that according much priority to pension reform in the state is a clear testimony of the administration’s commitment to ensuring that the efforts and sacrifices of senior citizens are not left in vain.

He urged workers to reciprocate government efforts by being dedicated and committed to their assigned responsibilities.

During the ceremony representatives of various labour unions conducted a colourful match pass parade to mark the celebrations of the workers day.

The event was attended by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf,his Deputy Kano executive council members ,union leader and other stakeholders.
