The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has directed its National Legal Adviser to initiate legal actions to recover what it termed the party’s “stolen mandate” in Delta State.

This move follows a dramatic defection on Monday, as Delta State Governor, his entire cabinet, and key political figures — including former Governor Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa — left the PDP for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Addressing journalists after an emergency NWC meeting in Abuja, PDP Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, expressed deep disappointment over the defections but maintained that the PDP remains a strong and enduring political force.

Damagum emphasized that the 2027 elections would present a clear contest between Nigerians and the ruling APC, accusing the current administration of mismanaging the country’s affairs.

In response to the political upheaval, the PDP national leadership has appointed the South-South Zonal Caretaker Executive, headed by Mr. Emmanuel Ogidi, to temporarily oversee the party’s activities in Delta State until a new caretaker committee is constituted.
