Federal Government is stepping up its border security efforts with the introduction of automated landing and exit cards for foreign travellers.

In a joint media briefing in Abuja, Ministers of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced that the initiative is part of Nigeria’s broader e-Visa solutions aimed at eliminating travel bottlenecks and enhancing national security.

According to the ministers, the new system developed in collaboration with the Nigeria Immigration Service, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, and the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority will take effect from May 1, 2025.

Mr. Keyamo said the initiative reflects the government’s resolve to foster inter-ministerial cooperation, especially in areas with overlapping mandates.

“What we are doing here today is a further testament to the determination of this government to foster cooperation between key ministries that have mandates that overlap.”

On his part, Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, explained that the automated cards would replace the existing manual process, with passengers now required to complete the cards online before boarding.

“The landing and exit card will be filled online before you board and presented to airlines before you can be boarded. This is a serious boost to our national security architecture and shows our commitment to protecting our borders.”

He added that the e-Visa platform will not only make entry into Nigeria more seamless but also reinforce the country’s sovereignty and security framework.

The automated entry and exit system is expected to come into full operation on the 1st of May, 2025.
