Kano State Government has clarified the recent Court of Appeal ruling regarding the ongoing Kano Emirship dispute.

During a media briefing at the NUJ Secretariat in Kano, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Haruna Isa Dederi, alongside the Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Waiya, addressed widespread misrepresentations and speculative reports in the media.

Barrister Dederi explained that the Court of Appeal’s January 10, 2025, judgement upheld the repeal of the Kano Emirate Council Law, 2019, and overturned the earlier ruling of the Federal High Court in Kano.

However, Alhaji Aminu Babba Dan’agundi, dissatisfied with the decision, has filed an appeal at the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

The Attorney General emphasised that the Court of Appeal’s judgment remains valid and subsisting pending the Supreme Court’s determination.

He described the stay of execution granted by the appellate court as a routine measure to maintain the status quo.

The Kano State Government has urged the public to remain law-abiding and avoid provocations.

Barrister Dederi thanked the people of Kano for their understanding and prayers, reaffirming the government’s commitment to resolving the matter through legal and peaceful means.
