Ilorin and environs in Kwara State have recorded the first rainfall in year 2025.
The torrential rainfall lasted for about 30 minutes.
The rainfall was preceded by a mild wind storm and lasted some minutes before the rain.
The residents have suffered a very high temperature with intense heat for some times which prompted the state government to commenced a state wide campaign on precautionary method to be adopted during this period.
In her remarks during an official inspection of some gully erosion sites at Omu-aran in Irepodun Local Government Area of the State the Commissioner for Environment, Hajiya Nafisat Musa Buge, advise the residents to ensure necessary precautions are taken .
She said the state is among those where the effect of climate change is manifest in the country.
Buge explained that Kwara has been listed among the nineteen states of the country predicted by the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet), where heat waves and associated extremely high temperatures will be experienced.
She advised the residents to seek prompt medical attention in case they notice any strange feelings to forestall outbreak of meningitis or heat stroke
