President Bola Tinubu has assured all 774 fellows enrolled in the newly launched National Health Fellows Programme of automatic employment upon completing their one-year tenure.
The National Health Fellows Programme, a flagship initiative under Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, was approved in April 2024 to improve accountability and efficiency in healthcare delivery across Nigeria.
The fellows, who began training on February 27, 2025, under the Sector Wide Approach Coordination Office, will spend the next year monitoring Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) in all 774 local government areas nationwide.
Tinubu’s announcement came in response to a call by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Pate, urging federal, state, and local governments to integrate the fellows into the workforce to strengthen Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Nigeria.
Hailing them as pioneers of a new era in primary healthcare, the President emphasized their critical role in transforming service delivery at the grassroots level.
Meanwhile, Prof. Pate reiterated the government’s commitment to expanding PHCs from 8,809 to 17,618 by 2027, ensuring broader access to quality healthcare for Nigerians.
