As the holy month of Ramadan enters its fourth day, many faithful observers are grappling with the high cost of fruits in Kano, which they regard a crucial component of their pre-dawn breakfast, known as Sahur ,and during Iftar.
Malam Bello Ibrahim and Abdulmajeed Baba, regular consumers of fruits, especially during Ramadan,in an interview with radio Nigeria expressed their frustration with the skyrocketing prices.
“Fruits are essential for our health during fasting, but the prices are becoming unbearable,” they lamented.
Malam Ado Shehu, Public Relations Officer of Naibawa Fruits Market, attributed the high cost of fruits to the increasing transportation costs.
However, some fruit merchants at the market pointed to a shortage of the commodity as the primary reason for the price hike.
The price surge has raised concerns among Ramadan observers, who rely heavily on fruits to maintain their health and energy levels throughout the day.
As the holy month progresses, many are hoping for a reversal of the trend to make fruits more affordable and accessible.
Meanwhile, health experts continue to emphasize the importance of fruits in maintaining a balanced diet during Ramadan.
