The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has called on Muslims across the country to begin searching for the new moon of Ramadan on Friday, February 28, 2025, which corresponds to 29th Sha’aban 1446 AH in the Islamic calendar.
In a statement by the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Islamic Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council of Sokoto State, Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu (Wazirin Sokoto), advised that if the moon is sighted, the information should be reported to the nearest district or village head for onward communication to the Sultan.
The statement further emphasized that the monthly moon observation plays a crucial role in verifying the Islamic calendar within a given year, making the Ramadan moon sighting more widely accepted among Muslims in the country.
Similarly, specific contact numbers have been provided for direct communication with the Sultanate Council regarding the moon sighting.
