The Kano State Government has inaugurated the State Technical Working Committee on Blood Transfusion to address gaps and challenges in blood transfusion services.
The committee’s primary objective is to ensure the safety of blood transfusions in the state.
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, inaugurated the committee, stating that its formation is crucial for the safety of blood transfusion in Kano State.
He emphasized that the selection of committee members was based on their competency and expertise.
According to him, the committee is tasked with providing technical expertise and advice on blood transfusion-related matters, developing and implementing guidelines and policies, and collaborating with stakeholders to improve blood transfusion services.
He who said the committee comprises representatives from various healthcare institutions, including the Hospitals Management Board, Private Health Institutions Management Agency, Primary Healthcare Management Board, and Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency noted the committee has the liberty to co-opt additional stakeholders as needed.
Academic institutions, such as Bayero University Kano and Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, are also represented.
The committee’s secretary, Dr. Hauwa Ibrahim, a consultant hematologist, will provide technical support to the committee.
The inauguration of the committee is a significant step towards improving blood transfusion services in Kano State, ensuring the safety and well-being of patients receiving blood transfusions.
