House of Representatives has called on President Bola Ahmad Tinubu to direct a thorough review and evaluation of strategies employed by the security agencies in collaboration with state governors towards combating crimes.

This was part of the prayers adopted by the House in a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by a member from Katsina State, Alhaji Sada Soli Jibia, and twenty other lawmakers from the 19 northern states.

Leading the debate on the motion, Alhaji Sada Soli stressed the urgent need for a comprehensive review of the strategies used by Nigerian security agencies to combat banditry and insurgency, due to the ongoing attacks on communities in Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, and Kebbi States in the northwestern region of the country.

He described as unfortunate how the affected States were plagued by the escalating banditry attacks, resulting in loss of lives, displacement of communities and disruption of socio-economic activities despite huge funds invested by the governors to restore peace in their States.

The lawmaker maintained that the incessant banditry attacks on Communities in North West would significantly impact food production and agricultural activities, jeopardizing food security and livelihoods of the people in affected States of the region in the coming raining season.

Alhaji Sada Soli reiterated that lawmakers from the Northwest are committed to fostering effective collaboration and coordination among security agencies, governors, and relevant stakeholders.

This commitment aims to devise comprehensive and lasting solutions to the challenges presented by bandits and other security concerns in the Northwest region and across Nigeria.

Also in his contribution, member from Katsina State Alhaji Abubakar Yahya Kusada, said it was disheartening how killing of innocent lives and destruction of property became a normal thing almost on a daily basis in Katsina State.

Alhaji Abubakar Kusada maintained that the motion emphasizes that Nigerian security agencies should understand that members are concerned and tired of counting the bodies of their constituents from bandit attacks.

He stated that it is high time to take the battle to the criminals’ hideouts to end the menace.

He further appealed for intensed oversight by the house relevant committees on how funds appropriated for security were utilized especially on the welfare, army nation procurement and the maintenance of the existing one’s.

The lawmaker however, confirmed that all members of the parliament from Katsina State supported the establishment of State Police considering the pivotal role the state security and protection guards were playing in saving the lives of their relations from bandits attacks.
