National Drug Law Enforcement Agency,(NDLEA) Kwara state command has arrested one hundred and eighty three(183) suspects and recovered seventy eight kilograms (78kg) of cannabis within the first quarter of this year.

The state commander of the agency , Mohammed Ibrahim made the disclosure while speaking exclusively with Radio Nigeria in Ilorin.

He said the command has also seized one hundred and four (104) liters of cough syrup and codeine from the suspects.

Ibrahim explained that one hundred and fifty two (152) of the suspects arrested are male while the remaining thirty (30) were females.

He said during the period, the command  recorded fifty one convictions, thirty pending cases and thirty five suspects standing trial.

Ibrahim said the command was working hard to ensure drug demand is reduced to the minimum in the state.

He noted that ninety two clients have been given brief rehabilitation at the command to enable them return to normal life free from drug.

The NDLEA Commander expressed worry over the delay in the completion of the rehabilitation centre located inside the command.

He urged wealthy individuals in the state to support the completion of the rehabilitation center to enable the agency put it into use.

Ibrahim appealed to parents to have interest in the activities of their children to prevent them from joining bad group.

He advised the youth to shun the habit of taking drugs in order to live a good life, adding that they should set an achievable goal for themselves.

Ibrahim thanked the state government for supporting the agency to enable them discharge their duties as expected.
