House of Representatives has resolved to summon the Minister of Petroleum Resources and all relevant stakeholders in the Petroleum industry to brief the house on measures put in place to end the current fuel scarcity in the country.

The decision was sequel to a motion of urgent public important sponsored by a member from Makarfi-Kudan federal Constituency in Kaduna State, Alhaji Umar Shehu Ajilo, adopted by the house.

Presenting the motion on the floor of the House, Alhaji Umar Shehu Ajilo, expressed concern that despite the huge resources at the NNPC’s, Nigerians are still facing perennial and persistent fuel scarcity thereby inflicting serious injury on their economic operations.

The lawmaker emphasized that it’s unfortunate that this was coming at a time when the adverse economic effect caused by subsidy removal and soaring inflation is yet to be addressed by the government, not to mention the deteriorating income of the Nigerian masses.

He said as representatives of the masses, members cannot accept a situation where a litre of petroleum product is being sold to Nigerians at 2000 naira and above making lives unbearable to the Nigerian citizens.

“This 10th Assembly must rise to the occasion to ensure that lasting measures are taken to address this unfortunate and embarrassing situation permanently in the interest of all Nigerians”

Most of the lawmakers contributed during a debate on the motion described it as timely in view of the difficulties millions of Nigerians are going through as a result the lingering fuel scarcity and appealed for urgent steps to arrest the situation.

Adopting the motion, Speaker Dr Abbas Tajuddeen, mandated the relevant house committees on petroleum resources to investigate the matter and report back to house for further legislative action.
