President Tinubu Meets Okonjo-Iweala At Aso Villa

President Bola Tinubu today met with the Director General of the World Trade Organisation, WTO, Dr. Okonji Iweala, to find additional ways of ameliorating the impact of the fuel subsidy removal on Nigerians.

Briefing State House correspondents on the purpose of her visit, Dr. Iweala said their meeting focused on how the WTO would support Nigerians at this time of need.

She said the meeting looked at the community and grassroots programmes that could be put in place to create jobs, support women and children, whom she noted, were bearing the brunt of some of the suffering in the country.

Dr. Iweala said the WTO was already working in Nigeria with women owning small and medium enterprises to try to help them upgrade the quality of their products.

According to her the training was in digital trade, aimed at to empowering them to expand their businesses and create more jobs.

A member of Dr. Iweala’s entourage, Professor Ali Pate, reaffirmed that President Tinubu was aware of the difficulties that people were facing, adding that the President is committed to ensuring a ways out of the suffering.

He said the thrust of the conversation they had was in terms of targeting the most vulnerable, women, children, youth, attracting investment opportunities, that could grow the economy for the masses to get some succour.

He noted that with the vision of the President, there was reason to be hopeful that the country would navigate through this difficult time and have a stronger, united, and prosperous Nigeria.
