Niger coup leaders have announced former Economist Minister, Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine as the new Prime Minister.

The military junta spokesperson Colonel Major Amadou Abdramane announced this Monday night, about two weeks after the coup.

Ali Lamine served as the Minister of Economy and finance in 2002 under the administration of former President Mamadou Tandja until 2010 when the administration faced a coup.

The military spokesperson also named Lieutenant-Colonel Habibou Assoumane as Niger’s new commander of the presidential guard.

Reports say President Bazoum is still in hostage.
