Niger state Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago has challenged the management of National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission N-HYPPADEC to redouble efforts in executing more projects that have direct impact on the lives of people in the state.
Governor Bago said this when the management of HYPPADEC led by its Managing Director Abubakar Sadik Yelwa visited him at the Government House Minna.
Alh Mohammed Umar Bago expressed dismay that thirty two percent benefit of the state from HYPPADEC was inadequate considering the number of dams situated in Niger state.
He reiterated the commitment of the state government in partnering with the commission for effective and efficient service delivery hence Niger state has not been really recognized appropriately in position of power generation in Nigeria despite hosting of four functional dams.
The Governor also stressed the need for adequate sensitization and enlightenment of communities to save lives and properties of the citizens as well as clearing of water channels to curb flooding.
Alh Mohammed Umar Bago would also wants the National HYPPADEC to always synergize with Niger state government while executing projects in the state to avoid duplication.
Earlier, the Managing Director of HYPPADEC Alhaji Abubakar Sadik Yelwa appreciated the contributions of the state and the Governor towards the actualization of the commission and commitment for boosting the cordial working relationship for its operations.
Alh Sadiq Yelwa revealed that the commission has amended its name to National – Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission N-HYPPADEC while additional four states have been admitted that include; Gombe, Taraba, Nassarawa and Kaduna, noting that Niger state has the highest local government councils of seventeen with three area offices at New Bussa, Gwada and Bida respectively.
