KWSG Urged To Intensify Surveillance Against The Spread Of Diphtheria

Kwara state government has been urged to intensify surveillance against the spread of diphtheria following its discovery in neighbouring states.

This was sequel to a matter of general public importance raised by the Kwara State House of Assembly Leader, Mr. Abdulkadir Magaji entitled “Need for State Government to ensure Surveillance against the outbreak of Diphtheria in the State”.

Mr. Magaji said the symptoms, mode of infection and treatment of diphtheria, require adequate vaccination to insulate the citizens against the bacterium disease.

Other lawmakers in their contributions, stressed the need for government to be proactive in the prevention of diphtheria, noting that prevention is cheaper than cure.

In the resolutions, Speaker, Kwara state House of Assembly , Engineer Yakubu Danlad advised the state government to improve surveillance against the disease, adding that the State Ministry of Health should work out modalities to guide against its outbreak in the State.

He urged the State Ministry of Communications to embark on sensitization to educate the citizens on the need to be cautious against the spread of the disease.
