Written by Bunmi Abdulraheem

Filling stations in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital and environs, have effected the new pump price of petroleum of N617 per litre as announced by NNPCL .

Radio Nigeria investigations revealed that many filling stations in the metropolis and neighbouring towns sold between N515 and N530 in the morning before they later increased to N595, N650 and N700 per litre in the afternoon.

Motorists, especially the commercial transporters, that were seen buying the commodity in filling stations, were full of lamentations.

some fuel attendants who spoke on condition of anonymity told Radio Nigeria that the new fuel price may further reduce number of buyers of the petroleum product, noting that patronage had reduced drastically since the introduction of N500 per litre in May.

A trader in Ilorin metropolis, Segun Olawale lamented that the new price of N617 would further worsen hardship and poverty among ordinary Nigerians, adding that transportation fare and price of food items would further go up.

However , commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators in the metropolis have started charging extra money to the already increased fare, while inter-state buses, are yet to effect increase in the transport fare.
