Kaduna Project Committee Visits Site

The Committee constituted by Kaduna State government to determine the status of projects across the state, including those in the pipeline started by the previous administration, has visited many project sites as part of the it’s mandate.

The Chairman of the Committee, Alhaji Sabiu Sani while speaking with newsmen shortly after visiting some projects sites explained that, the committee would also review the ongoing project and advise government on the way forward.

Alhaji Sani who revealed that, as part of the mandate given to them, the committee members deem it necessary to visit the project sites and get first hand information.

“The work is not limited to just sit down in office, obtaining data or information from various government agencies but it also involved Interactive session with some of the contractors, the agencies and ministries”, the Chairman explained.

He pointed out that, the committee had visited significant projects to verify the level of information they received in office with what is on ground.

According to Alhaji Sabiu Sani, members of the committee have seen projects that have made significant progress that require little efforts to get them completed.

“We have seen those that people collected money and abandoned the work while some contractors have done the work beyond what they have been paid so it is a mixed bag”, Sani noted.

He gave an assurance that, after the inspection they would review all the projects and make appropriate recommendation that would guide the state government in carrying out its mandate.

“We believe government should prioritize some of the project, because some require little money to be able to achieve it purpose while some, government should use all the necessary mechanism to get some of the contractors arrested, so that at the end the money meant for development will be recover from them”.

Some of the projects sites visited include, 200 Housing Estate Rigasa in Igabi, Deputy Governor’s Residence, Renovation and remodelling of Kaduna State House of Assembly project, Dualization of Arewa House to Nnamdi Azikwe – Underpass that link to train station among other projects.

“Also part of terms of reference of the committee was to determine the status of all ongoing projects across the state, get the details of contractual agreements/obligations, find out the funding arrangements and commitments of parties, find out the completion period of the projects and come up with specific recommendations on each project”.

The committee has four weeks from the inaugural meeting to submit its report.
