Reps To Strengthen Ties With Swiss Parliament

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Abbas Tajuddeen, says the Nigerian Parliament will strengthen the existing ties with Switzerland for improved bilateral relationships between the two countries.

The Speaker made this known while receiving the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Nicholas Lang, on a courtesy visit at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.

Dr. Abbas Tajuddeen who expressed delight at the visit noted that Swiss Diplomats were the first set of “foreign dignitaries to visit him since his election as Speaker of the 10th Assembly.

He assured the delegation that the Nigerian House of Representatives was ever ready to partner with their country in every way possible –legislative, economic, social, and cultural activities.

The Speaker who described it as a good development that Nigeria was the biggest petroleum supplier to Switzerland also congratulated the country on its recent appointment in the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Earlier, the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Lang, noted the importance of his host country calling for a stronger bilateral relationship between Nigeria and Switzerland inviting the Speaker to Switzerland for exchanges with the Swiss Parliament.

Mr Lang said Nigeria being the main provider of oil is housing roughly 50 Swiss companies presently mostly located in Lagos where the most important part of Nigeria’s economy is.

The Swiss Ambassador emphasized that the idea behind the visit is to strengthen relationships with all institutions, not only the Executive but also the Parliament, the Senate, and the House of Representatives.
