Speaker of the House of Representatives Dr Abbas Tajuddeen, has lauded Public Complaints Commission for resolving disputes in the polity, decrying that the performance of the Nigerian Ombudsman is underreported.

He made the commendation when Chief Commissioner of the Commission, Abimbola Ayo-Yusuf, led the leadership of the Nigerian Ombudsman on a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja.

Dr. Abbas Tajuddeen stressed that Public Complaints Commission is a statutory body under the National Assembly where the common man can go and get redress on issues that pertain to his endeavors.

Responding to the demands by the Chief Commissioner on issues affecting the Commission, the Speaker noted that he was aware of some of the challenges facing the body, and assured the House readiness to assist the management in addressing them.

He also expressed concern that despite the fact that the commission has been performing well but they are underreported in the sense that people from outside the National Assembly would not appreciate it.

Earlier, the Chief Commissioner Mr Ayo-Yusuf, on behalf of the staff and management of the Commission congratulated the Speaker on his emergence as the Number 4 Citizen in June this year.

He said within the short period of his election as Speaker Dr Abbas Tajuddeen has proven to the people that you are a true leader that his colleagues overwhelmingly elected without any rancour.

The Commission’s head also used the visit to appeal to the Speaker to urgently influence the Commission’s request for special financial intervention to enable it to pay the approved Consolidated Legislative Salary Structure (CONLESS) as well as accumulated promotion arrears of its staff.
