Written by Bunmi Abdulraheem

The National Commission for Nomadic Education (NCNE) is to review and development of text for pupils in three subject areas; Islamic Religious Studies (IRS), Christian Religious Studies (CRS) and History for the education of pastoralists and migrant fisherfolk/farmers.

At the opening ceremony of the workshop in Abuja, the Executive Secretary of (NCNE), Prof Bashir Usman, said that the seven subjects were supposed to be reviewed, but for lack of funding which led to the review of just three.

Prof Usman urged the participants to bring their expertise to bear.

Also, the Head of Department, Planning, Research and Statistics, Dr Mrs Rose Nwaji, said that the dearth of textual materials in nomadic schools necessitated the workshop as the commission places a high premium on the development of textual materials for nomads.

“Indeed, the workshop is timely because the Commission recently completed the review/development and critique of the curriculum guides in the same subject areas, including National Values (Social studies, Civic and Security Education).

“The availability of instructional materials in nomadic schools is important element in teaching and learning process and is central to the attainment of the objectives of Nomadic Education Programme (NEP)”, she said.
