Written by Godwin Duru

Students of the Federal University Gusau in Zamfara State , have blocked Gusau-Funtua road to protest the abduction of fellow students.

Spokesperson of the students, Musa Shehu told Radio Nigeria in Gusau that, many students were kidnapped in the past but no action was taken to rescue them either by the management of the institution or the police.

Five students of the institution were abducted by bandits yesterday night, a situation which has angered the students to block the road as a result of which several motorists were left stranded for several hours.

All efforts by the security agents to disperse the crowd proved abortive as many of them sat on the main road, calling on the school management and security agencies to take urgent action on the security situation in the institution.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Muazu Abubakar who was at the scene of the incident appealed to the students to allow motorists to pass but they refused to listen to him.

He assured that, efforts would be taken by the institution to ensure adequate security in the institution, but the students insisted that they would not go anywhere.

Similarly, some trailer truck drivers have also blocked Gusau- Sokoto road along Gada Biyu this morning in a protest against the attitudes of the security agencies whose mounted a road block on the roads.

A trailer truck driver who spoke to Radio Nigeria Correspondent in Gusau, said the security personnel were extorting money from them and causing unnecessary traffic jam.

Vehicles were seen parked on the road, while efforts to reach Zamfara Police Command’s Public Relations Officer ASP Yazeed Abubakar to comment on the issues proof abortive.
