INEC Declares Dikko Radda Of APC As Katsina Governor-Elect

Dr. Dikko Umar Radda of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has been declared winner of the governorship election held in Katsina State on Saturday.

Announcing the result at the INEC head office in Katsina, the Returning Officer, Professor Muazu Gusau explained that Dr. Radda scored 859,892 votes to defeat his closest contender, Senator Yakubu Lado of the Peoples Democratic Party who polled 486,620 votes.

The returning officer for the Katsina State governorship election, Professor Muazu Gusau declared the result of the election before election observers, party agents, journalists and members of the civil society at the INEC head office in Katsina.

The returning officer explained that the result in eighty polling units were cancelled due to some hitches recorded during voting or collation.

Meanwhile, the announcement was greeted with jubilation as APC supporters that waited outside the the venue of the collation played loud music as they cheered the winner.

Shortly after his declaration as winner, Dr. Dikko Radda described his victory as divine, and called on his co-contestants from other parties to consider the outcome of the election as the will of God.

Dr. Dikko Radda also promised to focus on human capital development particularly through massive investment in education, and youth empowerment.

Dr. Radda also promised to look into key issues of security, agriculture and industrialization through the development of MSMEs.

The 54 year-old Governor-elect hails from Caranci Local Government Area and had served as a chairman of the Local Government Council, he also worked in the banking sector and has held various other positions including Chief of Staff, Government House Katsina and Director-General Small and Medium Scale Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria, SMEDAN.
