Governor Babagana Zulum during a broadcast to the State on today’s Monday Market fire disaster.

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has announced an emergency relief of one billion naira to support victims of Monday Market fire disaster pending assessment of the incident. 

In a state broadcast soon after visiting the scene of the disaster also announced that the military have been mobilized to secure the area to prevent breakdown of law and order.

The Governor said he is deeply pained by the incident noting that it is hurting for anyone to work hard over years to build his or her business but end up losing that investment in seconds. 

” I have approved the release of one billion naira as emergency relief for us to quickly support victims of the disaster because we know that some of them may even have difficulty of surviving the next few days. Many rely on daily businesses in order to cater for themselves” Zulum announced. 

According to him, an assessment committee would be set up comprising of respectable individuals from the society including representatives of the victims.

Governor Zulum said he would also seek an audience with Mr President and request for presidential intervention for the victims. 

He appealed for calmness, urging residents not to politicize the unfortunate incident.
