Emir Of Kano Calls For Peaceful Conduct Of Elections

Emir of Kano Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, has called on eligible voters to exercise their civic responsibilities in accordance, with laid down rules and regulations.

Alhaji Aminu made the call shortly after casting his vote at Kano emirate palace.

According to him, setting aside political diffrences during elections, would go a long way in promoting peaceful coexistence and mutual understanding.

He urged kano residents to shun thuggery and criminal activities, while at the polling units.

The emir, advised eligible voters to stay away from polling units after casting their votes, to avoid congestion and allow collation officers discharge their duties accordingly.

Meanwhile the state governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has cast his vote at cikin Gari polling unit, Ganduje Ward at Dawakin Kudu local government area.

He described the process as good and effective but slow in accreditation.

Radio Nigeria’s correspondent ,who went round some local government areas in kano observed that, voting materials arrived Zawaciki ward around 12:30 pm, while some units in mazabar ‘yan mata ward, Dala local government area witnessed late arrival of materials, while some eligible voters refused to join the que.

Meanwhile, at Gidan Radio Ward, kano municipal local government area, no single domestic or international observer visited was sighted.

However, several eligible observers were left stranded as the BIVAS was programmed to accredit only 730 at the polling unit with over 1,000 voters.

Aisha Haruna Ahmed, Zainab Ibrahim Aliyu, Sulaiman Yahuza and Abba Hussaini called on relevant authorities to take necessary action,claiming that, they would not leave the polling unit without casting their votes.

Radio Nigeria reports that, heavy security have been deployed to Gwale ward to restore peace after the break down of law and order.
