Scholarship: Borno Govt Releases Over N600m For 22,000 Students

Borno State Government has approved the release of six hundred and eleven million, nine hundred and ninety thousand naira as payment of scholarship for twenty two thousand, seven hundred and sixty nine students pursuing various programmes in different tertiary institutions across the country. 

At a media briefing in Maiduguri, Executive Secretary State Scholarship Board Dr Bala Isa said the payment is for 2021/2022 scholarship allowances for Borno state students. 

According to him, 17,533 students from forty eight different universities would receive a cumulative amount of four hundred and thirty seven million naira, while 54,495,000 million naira has been released as scholarship for 3,350 polytechnic students and thirty five million naira for one thousand, eight hundred and five students of colleges of education. 

Dr Isa said the bursary was released to cushion the Impact of the recent hike of registration fees by some federal universities in the county.

“Governor Babagana Zulum has approved the sum of 611, 990,000 as scholarship to students of Borno, this is in line with the 25 years development plan which give priority to education of people of the state” the Executive Secretary announced. 

The Executive Secretary remarked that the benefitting students will start recieving their payment from next week.

He explained that medical and science students would receive fifty thousand naira while polytechnic students will get fifteen thousand naira.

President Nigerian Union of Borno state Students NUBOSS Abubakar Wajiro thanked the Governor for the timely release of students’ scholarship. 

He described the intervention as timely, as it will help students who earlier on consider to abandon their studies due to the recent hike of registration fees.
