Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commisssion (FCCPC) says it will collaborate with health care providers to ensure adequate protection of the rights of patients and improve health care service across the country.

The Executive Vice Chairman of the Commisssion,Mr Babatunde Irukera made the disclosure while speaking at the unvailing of the “Patient Bill of Right” in Public and private hospitals in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.

According to him there is a great disconnect between the patients and the health care service providers on the right of the patients.

He said the strategy to adopt was to ensure health care providers were carried along in signing of the bill and it’s domestication to enable it work.

Mr Irukera said the patients right bill would give patients the opportunity to get the best treatment required in a health facility.

He advised patients to always use the available channels to register for their grievance for prompt action.

Mr Irukera warned that any patients or patient family caught attacking health workers will be prosecuted.

In his address Kwara state governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazq, represented by his deputy Mr Kayode Alabi commended the Commisssion for coming up with a bill to protect patients rights .

He said the state government would collaborate with the Commisssion to ensure success of the bill.

In his remark the Chief Medical Director University of Ilorin, Teaching Hospital, Professor Abdullah Dasliva Yusuf , represented by Chairman Medical Advisory Committee,Louis Odeigha said the bill will help in ensuring sanity in the health sector.

Also, the Medical Director,LEAH Hospital Ilorin,Dr Oyinloye Gregory,said the management of the health center would work harder to keep the obligation of the bill.

Earlier in his address the Medical Director,Anchormed Hospital Tanke Ilorin, Professor Adegboyega Fawole said the domestication of the patients right bill would help in building confidence in both the patients and the health workers.
