INEC Assures Enabling Environment for Conduct of Credible Elections

A total of twenty one thousand and thirty eight personnels are to be involved in the conduct of the forthcoming general elections in Niger state.

INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner In charge of the state Alh Ahmed Yusha’u Garki announced this in Minna at the last stakeholders meeting before the Presidentiial and National Assembly elections in continuation of its series of consultation towards a successful elections.

Alh Ahmed Yusha’u Garki said already ninety five percent of non sensitive materials for the conduct of forthcoming general elections in Niger state have been moved to the twenty five local government councils.

According to him out of the four hundred and and seventy nine candidates contesting for various elective positions in the state only twenty five of them are females representing five point two percent.

Alh Ahmed Yusha’u Garki further said after the last Continuous Voter Registration exercise Niger state now has about two point seven million registered voters out of which fourty two point seven percent are females and fifty seven point three percent are males.

While reaffirming the commitment of INEC to the conduct of credible and acceptable elections the Resident Electoral Commissioner in charge of Niger state said the commission is making arrangements to connduct elections in identified IDPs voting centre so that such persons will not be disenfranchised.

NYSC Coordinator in Niger state Alh Mahmud Taura reminded the corp members that participation in the general elections is a national assignment and that any compromise is a crime while assuring that they will be neutral and called for their protection by security agencies to enhance their safety.

Commissioner of Police in charge of Niger state Mr Ogundele Ayodeji represented by the Assistant Commissioner of Police Ali Kagama assured of their resolve with the support of other sister security agencies to provide a water tide security in protecting election materials and personnels as well as voters to exercise their franchise with ease.

Representatives of CAN JNI political parties and NGOs that attended the stakeholders meeting hammered on peace without which there could be no meaningful development.
