Transparently Investigate, Punish Perpetrators Of Nasarawa Herders-Baba Ahamad

Federal government has been urged to transparently investigate and severely punish those responsible for the death of many pastoralists and herders of cattles in a border community between Nasarawa and Benue States.

Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Shari’a in Nigeria, Nafi’u Baba Ahamad made this known at a press conference in Kaduna.

The Secretary General said the call on government to thoroughly investigate the gruesome murder of pastoralists and their cattles in Doma, Nasarawa state became necessary in view of the frequency of such attacks.

He said findings from the investigation must also be made public hence the issues should not be swept under the carpet.

On the new currency policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Nafi’u Baba Ahamad expressed dismay over challenges being faced by citizens pointing to insufficient of redesigned naira notes at financial institutions in the country.

The Secretary General of Supreme Council for Shari’a in Nigeria also advised the Independent National Electoral Commission-INEC to review it’s timetable and consider the possibility of conducting all elections on the same day as a way of checking political unrest that might likely occur after the first round of election.

Reacting to conduct of the housing and population census, he called for a suspension of the exercise stressing that Nigerians needed to concentrate more on the upcoming election.

The Secretary General further reaffirmed determination of the Council to support and cooperate with security agencies to achieve a safer Nigeria.
