The state director, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Alhaji Salisu Waziri Kutama, has charged the public to report any person who rejects old naira notes, before the 31st January deadline.

Alhaji Salisu made the indication, during a sensitization campaign on the new naira notes, organized by NOA at farm center GSM market Kano.

According to him, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), had set modalities in place to ensure success of the exercise, which include provision of new notes to banks and registered financial institutions, media enlightenment campaigns, sensitization visits to markets and business owners among others.

The state director highlighted that, CBN and NOA visited Galadima, Sabon Gari, Kwari, Wapa and Kofar Wambai markets, to draw the attention of traders to deposit cash into their bank accounts, to receive the new notes.

“Am appealing to you to support government by accepting the new notes which is meant to mitigate corruption and other financial crimes”.

Also speaking, Vice Chairman, farm center GSM market traders association, Alhaji Ishaq Abdulrahman Khalid, commended the National Orientation Agency for the visit.

He advised NOA, CBN and other relevant stakeholders, to take the sensitization to rural areas as many are not aware of the redesigned naira.

Ishaq called on business owners at the GSM market to follow due process in exchanging their old naira notes with new ones and desist from rejecting the old ones before January 31st.

“Most traders at the rural areas do not have bank accounts and are not aware of the new notes, what would be the outcome of villages that don’t have a single bank? “.

Radio Nigeria reports that, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), had set January 31st as the last day the old N200, N500 and N1,000 would cease to be legal tenders.
