Written by Bunmi Abdulraheem

Nigerians have been warned against activities that can cause fire outbreaks as the yuletide approaches.

The Controller General of the Federal Fire service, CG Jaji Abdulganiyu gave the advice in a statement by the National Public Relations Officer, Abraham Paul ahead of the Christmas and New year holidays.

He highlighted some of the major causes of fire incidents during the Yuletide period including indiscriminate use of fireworks, overloading of electrical sockets and Improper handling of hydrocarbons as well highly inflammable liquids such as petrol with regards to storage and transportation.

He directed all stations, State and zonal commands to be on the alert as Nigerians celebrate Christmas and New Year in case of eventual fire outbreaks.

The Controller General noted that while Fire safety is vital throughout the year, the extra distractions of merriment make it important to be vigilant during festive seasons.

He enjoined members of the public to cooperate with the Federal Fire Service in taking precautions over the festive season to ensure that families and loved ones are protected from fire.

CG Jaji Abdulganiyu added that the Federal Fire Service could be reached at 0803 200 3557/122 in case of fire and other emergencies.
