Telecommunication Sector, Strategic Driver of Digital Economy — Prof. Umar Danbatta

The Telecommunication Sector has been described as a strategic driver of the digital economy, especially in the activities of SMEs across Nigeria and beyond.

The Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission NCC Professor Umar Garba Danbatta States this during the NCC day at the 43rd Kano International Trade Fair, Which Took place at the Trade Fair Complex Zoo Road Kano.

Represented by the Deputy Director of Consumer Affairs Mr. Banji Ojo said Information and Communication Technology is not the only fastest growing industry, but it is also an important enabler of innovation and development.

He said the commission had embarked on digital literacy training for entrepreneurs across the six geopolitical zones of the Nation.

” The aim was to equip small-scale business owners with the requisite skills and to generate ideas for the development of products and services that can be exported “

Professor Umar Garba Danbatta notes that the number of active mobile subscribers in Nigeria as at August 2022, has reached 210 million, with a teledensity of 109.99% , While internet subscribers have exceeded 152.2 million with broadband penetration standing at 44.65%.

In a remark the interim chairman of the Kano Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture Alhaji Ahmed Aminu Commended the activities of the NCC in promoting the telecommunication industry of the Nation.

He said the 43rd Kano Trade fair was organized to enhance commerce and industry and also to showcase the talents and products of SMEs ,with the aim of boosting the economy.

During the event a rapple draw was organized by NCC, and ten participants won ten new android mobile phones.
