Federal Government has promised to accord priority to the welfare of ex-servicemen in line with their contributions to national and international peace.
The secretary to the government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha said this at the unveiling of the 2023 Armed Forces Remembrance Emblem .
Speaking after being decorated with the emblem, Mr Mustapha charged members of the Nigerian legion to “engage in serious advocacy” on how best to deal with the issues of post-conflict trauma being faced by members of the legion .
The SGF promised to work with the legion to create a “data base” of veterans and their various skills, with a view to further engaging them where necessary .
The National Chairman of the Nigeria Legion, Major-General Abdullmalik Jibril, represented by a special adviser, Uche Uche, who decried the increased number of vulnerable ex servicemen, said the legion now has more widowed and injured ex-servicemen in need of care and support.
Mr Uche solicited for an employment quota for families of “fallen heroes” to enable them carry on with their lives.
