A 3-day Capacity development training workshop on skills Acquisition and sustainable livelihoods for Nomadic youths is in progress in Kaduna.

Organised by the National Commission for Nomadic Education, the three day workshop was been attended by selected Nomadic youths from seven States of Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Imo, Kaduna, Kwara, Kebbi and Oyo.

Declaring the workshop open, the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Professor Bashir Usman said the initiative of empowering Nomadic youths through skills acquisition can reduce social vices, such as cattle rustling, kidnappings and rural banditry.

Represented by the Director, quality assurance of the Commission, Dr. Akin Akinyosoye, the Executive Secretary said when youths acquire skills, they will become self reliant and beneficial to the society.

He noted that the various skills training in the workshop, which provides the trainees with artistic, manipulative, life coping, lifelong communicative empowerment skills as well as problem solving skills.

Professor Bashir Usman expressed hope that, the participants who were carefully selected would acquire necessary skills and experience at the workshop to improve their well-being and impact the knowledge to future generations.

Earlier, in a welcome address, the Director, Extension Education and skills development of the commission, Dr Abdu Umar Ardo said the workshop was aimed at building the capacity of the Nomad’s youths to be able to successfully build their skills based on their needs and their various community needs.

He added that the workshop would also enable the participants to develop local action plan on the implementation of the acquired skills for sustainable livelihoods among the trainees in their localities.

The workshop is been attended by fifty six participants from the seven States.
