Federal Government says it plans to train over 15 million Nigerians on ICT and digital skills in next few years through its various online training platforms.

Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Pantami who stated this at the Digital Nigeria Conference 2022 said the massive digital skill acquisition was to boost digital literacy amongst Nigerians.

The Digital Nigeria Conference was first held in October 2019 following the integration of the Digital Communication sector with the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy.

However, the conference was not held in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The conference referred to the fact that the global digital sector had evolved thereby generating over 10 trillion dollars in the last 10 years.

Prof Pantami said Nigeria could not afford to be left out of the economic benefits of the global sector therefore the ministry developed 19 national policies to further enhance rapid economic growth.

Director General, National Information Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Abdullahi said the conference had enhanced public awareness on the viability of digital economic sector.

The Gambian Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Ousman Bah had called for cooperation throughout the various regions of the continent to the advantage of Africa in the global communication sector.

The three day conference is to end on Thursday with a communiqué on the future of the digital economic sector.
