Customs Officer Killed, Three Others Injured In Kwara State

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Joint Border Patrol Team (JBPT) Sector 3 , has confirmed the death of one of its officers following an ambush by hoodlums on Sinau-Kenu road in Baruten area of Kwara state.

In a statement in Ilorin by the Spokesman of the command Chado Zakaria said three other officers sustained life threatening injuries during the attacks.

According to the statement the operatives intercepted forty (40) bags of foreign parboiled rice 50kg and thirty (30) jerry cans of premium motor spirit (PMS) 25
each litres abandoned by the bush paths, on Sinau-Kenu Road.

The statement said the operatives immediately swung into action and evacuated the items into their operational vehicles for onward delivery to
Government warehouse for safe keeping in line with rules of engagement.

The statement explained that
while on transit a group of hoodlums laid ambush and shot sporadically at the officers, adding that in the exchange that ensued, one of the officers lost his life ,while three other officers sustained life
threatening injuries and are currently responding to treatment in the hospital.

The statement noted that the deceased Saheed Aweda has been buried in accordance with Islamic injunctions in his home town, Popogbona in Ilorin West local government of Kwara State.

The statement urged parents and guardians to warn their wards to desist from obstructing operatives from
performing their legitimate duties.
