HYPPADEC Donates Life Jackets, Cash To Niger Boat Mishap Survivors

Following the recent boat mishap that led to the death of ten people in Niger state, the Hydro Power Producing Areas Development Commission HYPPADEC has donated life jackets and cash to victims from two local government area councils. 

Presenting the items, the Managing Director of HYPPADEC, Alhaji Abubakar Sadik Yelwa  commiserated with the victims and people of Gbara in Mokwa and Lanchikagi in Lavun local government areas and urged them to be strong in their trying moment.

Represented by the Director Operations Engineer Ilyasu Abdullahi Wara , the Managing Director explained that families of each deceased were given one hundred thousand naira while thirty seven of the survivors were given thirty thousand naira each to ameliorate their sufferings.

Alhaji Abubakar Sadik Yelwa explained that the total amount expended was two point one million naira for both the deceased and survivors.

He appealed to the Niger State House of Assembly to as a matter of urgency enact a law to mandate the use of life jackets in the state and tasked  members of community to always make use of the jackets to forestall future reoccurrence.

District Head of Gbara, Alhaji Mohammed Saba appreciated the kind gesture from the federal government and HYPPADEC in providing life jackets and cash to the victims.

One of the victim Malam Abubakar Isah Muregi who thanked the Commission for this laudable gesture , expressed sadness over the loss of two of his brothers to the incident.  

It could be recalled that last week a boat mishap occurred where eleven persons were confirmed dead while thirty seven survived the unfortunate incident that included women and children who were returning from their weekly market and wedding on the Kaduna river.
