House of Representatives has lauded the sacrifices of teachers in nigeria and all over the world.

The development followed a motion by a member from Plateau state, Mr. Dachung Bagos on the Need for the House to recognize Teachers’ sacrifices.

In his lead debate, he noted that in view of the significant role teachers are playing worldwide, it is necessary to honour them in recognition of their sacrifices to nation-building.

The lawmaker maintained that despite the challenges of dilapidated working conditions and poor salary packages, Nigerian teachers have been giving their best in producing competent students with good results.

Contributing, a member from Lagos state Mr. Rotimi Agunsoye, who commended teachers, advocated that the reward of a teacher should start from now and at the same time in heaven.

While debating, the spokesman of the house Mr. Benjamin Kalu, who remembered the kind gesture of guidance and counseling they enjoyed from teachers, called for improvement in their welfare for better results.

In a submission, Deputy Speaker Alh Ahmad Idris Wase revealed that the house had been doing well for Nigerian teachers, which includes the amendment of the retirement age act as well as the ongoing engagement to address the ASUU strike.

While ruling on the matter, the Speaker Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila called for a standing ovation and a round of applause for teachers as well as a minute of silence for those who have passed on.
