About 12 million poor and vulnerable households have been recorded in a National Social Register from which 2 million are receiving a monthly cash transfer of ₦5,000 the ministry of humanitarian affairs says.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar-Farouq who made the statement said an estimated 9.8 million Primary 1-3 pupils nationwide are receiving nutritious meals prepared by over 100,000 cooks.

She stated this during the inauguration of a grant for vulnerable groups in the FCT, expected to increase the income and productive assets of the target beneficiaries.

Hajiya Sadiya who explained that the government remained on track to lift 100 million out of poverty by 2030 said, nearly 3 million Nigerians have benefitted under the GEEP and about 1 million are going to access the GEEP loans soon.

The Grant for Vulnerable Groups programme was introduced in 2020 to sustain the social inclusion agenda of President Buhari’s Administration.

A cash grant of ₦20,000 each is to be given to over 2,000 beneficiaries mainly women in the FCT.
